Those who love the great outdoors can swim and fish in the pristine waters of Fork Lake, or explore this spring-fed private lake by paddle boat or canoe. The old logging and mining roads of times past have been converted by nature into a full range of walking, hiking, and biking trails, offering opportunities for everything from a gentle stroll through a stand of old growth forest and rare meadow flowers to a steep mountain climb for panoramic mountain and ocean views. Trails accessing Victoria's premiere Mountain Bike Park wind throughout the nearby Highland Woods.
The unique and ecologically sensitive ecosystem of the Highlands can also be explored by eco-tourists through the parks at Lone Tree Hill, the Gowlland Range, and Francis King Regional Park. McKenzie Bight provides access to a unique seaside beach with a rare variety of marine life. Trail maps and information for most parks are available at BC Parks.
The Jack Nicklaus designed world class golf course Bear Mountain is ten minutes away as is the All Fun Recreation Park with waterslides, go-karts, minigolf, and many other activities for the family. Or just stay at the vacation home and suntan on the wharf and diving platform, or relax in the large hot tub and sauna. The patios, sundecks, gardens, and large yard all provide ample space for barbeques, social activities, recreation, and relaxation.
Well-situated in one of the few remaining natural spaces left surrounding the growing capital of Victoria, the fine restaurants, shopping, whale watching, and many other arts and cultural attractions are a scenic 20 minute drive away.
This is but one of many spectacular hikes that abound in our incredible system of Parks which Fork Lake is so fortunate to be in the middle of. (See Park Links for more great hiking)
When it's time to take out the golf clubs, World Class Bear Mountain Golf Course is just a 10 minute drive down the road at the foot of Mount Finnlayson. Museum, Museum of Art, Butchart Gardens or whale watching. Cast a rod from a fishing charter boat. Enjoy the excitement of kayaking, horseback riding or playing tennis. Ride a bike on the Galloping Goose Trail or walk into the sunset on a mile long sandy beach. All these activities are literally minutes away from the Fork Lake House.
